Today I had my first real encounter with the wildlife. On the way back from the laundry house there were a couple of monkeys in the field just hanging out. I had been wanting to take a good pictures of the monkeys and so I decided to approach one of the monkeys who was sitting peacefully. As I kept creeping closer and closer the monkey continued to sit their grooming itself, so naturally I thought everything was good. I got about five feet from it and started to take a picture, when all of a sudden it leapt to its feet and charged at me. I guess the saying "monkey see, monkey do" is true because once the first monkey started chasing me a couple other followed in pursuit. I also learned that when it come to my fight or flight instincts I choose flight. For as soon as the monkeys started running after me I high tailed it screaming back to the path, where my friends were watching the whole things go down. I made it back to the path unharmed although I was meet by not only my friends laughing at me but also one of the guards. He explained to me that I had nothing to be fear since all the monkeys wanted was to play with me. He says that if you play with the monkeys they will even jump into your arms. For now I think I'll let the monkeys play with themselves. I am happy to say that even through the process of getting chased by these 10 pound monkeys I still managed to get a pretty good picture of my attackers :)
